Uttarakhand language

     People of uttarakhand speak the dialect of Kumaoni(in the Kumaon area) and Garhwali(in Garhwal area). They are sometimes also sometimes also known as Pahari as they belong to central Paharai language group of the Himalayas. . Most of the dialects are influenced by Sankrit, central pahari, sauraseni prakit. These dialects in term also influence the lingo of the neighboring areas of Himachal Pradesh, Nepal etc. Within each area people speak different dialects which are influenced by the area where the people live. Babu - Father
Cheli - Daughter
Chewl - Son
Daju - Elder brother. Also used in common social interaction to say hello to another male person.
Baini - Sister. Also used in common social interaction to say hello to another female person.
Boju - Colloquial term for sister in law (mostly elder). Synonymous with Bhabhi word in Hindi.
Dairan - Younger Sister in law. Synonymous with Devrani word in Hindi.
Jethan - Elder Sister in law. Synonymous with Jethani word in Hindi.
